Glitchknit
I created this work through a partnership with the Fashion Design program at Paris College of Art and Stoll Knitting, an industrial knitting machine center in Paris. I was interested in exploring the glitching of traditional knitting patterns as a means of highlighting the technology behind textile production. I created a glitch algorithm in p5js to manipulate a cross-stitch pattern, then uploaded it to Stoll’s M1Plus software to convert it into stitches for a jacquard knit on an industrial machine. The process ties the often-forgotten relationship between textiles and technology, with jacquard punch cards being a precursor to modern computing.
